About Us

Our Story

Since 1976, we have been a church in the northern suburbs of Perth as part of the Churches of Christ in Western Australia.

It was in 1976 that a group of people from Warwick Church of Christ set off north to pioneer a church in the new and growing suburbs on the northern edge of the city. The church originally began meeting in a home in Kallaroo and later moved into the Whitford City Shopping Centre, where it took on the name of Whitford Church of Christ. The church grew and grew over time, eventually purchasing a shopping centre in nearby Mullaloo that had gone bust. In the shopping centre, the church continued to grow through faithful ministry and ultimately sold the shopping centre off and established a permanent home on the block next door, where the Mullaloo campus still meets today.

God blessed and used the church over the years and in 1995, nearly 20 years after beginning, another group of people set off further north once again to pioneer a church in the new and growing suburbs around Merriwa, called North Coast Community Church. The church began meeting in the Jenolan Way Community Centre and over the next 20 years would continue to grow through faithful ministry, moving to various locations around the region as the church grew.

In 2003, the leadership of both Whitford Church and North Coast Community Church felt led by God to join the two churches back together to become one church in two locations, Whitford Church: Central Campus and North Coast Campus. Over the years to come, Whitford Church would continue to experience fruitful ministry through this partnership approach to ministry.

Now, nearly 40 years since beginning in a house in Craigie, the church is once again in a season of pioneering. On 22 March 2015, Whitford Church became known as True North Church. The change in name represents a new season of ministry ahead for the church, a season that will no longer be marked by any one location, but one in which the church establishes itself beyond the Whitfords area of our city.

At the end of 2014, we received development approval to establish a church facility and permanent home for our Merriwa campus at the corner of Jenolan Way and Connolly Drive. Twenty years after beginning on Jenolan Way, we are preparing to break ground on what will be a permanent home for our Merriwa campus and a new centre for the community at large.

Today, we continue to be part of the Churches of Christ in Western Australia, one church in two locations (Mullaloo & Merriwa), and focused on how we can keep the same spirit of pioneering alive in our church from which it began: to never stop exploring and discovering how we can be all God dreams us to be. All along our journey, He has been and remains our True North.
